When I read about living the good life in Ecuador, it seems to be about being at the beach or enjoying varioue sorts of entertainment. That is fine for a vacation but not as a way of life. Are there ways for people with limited Spanish abilities (at least at the beginning) to get involved with making it a better place to live, to live a worthwhile life, charities perhaps?

There are tons of volunteer opportunities in Cuenca. And if you don’t find one that suits you, you can start your own. That’s exactly what all the other founders did!
