Who remembers War of the Worlds and the panic that caused? Well… a regional blog here in Ecuador today posted an article that indicates new resident visa requirement for foreigners. They quote government officials as well as a longtime expat resident and they say that a new residence requirement is basic fluency in Spanish. As you might imagine, this evoked a certain amount of panic among expats here and potential expats who don’t speak Spanish.
It’s an April Fool joke. Don’t fall for it.
However, it is important to learn Spanish if you are thinking of moving to ANY foreign country with Spanish as the official language.
