Banking in Ecuador

Can anyone tell me the process for getting banking set up in Ecuador? Probably Cotacachi, or Cuenca? Are there any Canadian or American banks in those cities? Need to know how to bring money with us safely and legally. Thanks

Personally, until I were living in Ecuador (or unless I needed a bank as part of my visa process) I would wait until I knew where I was going to live before I opened a bank account. You want it to be as convenient as possible.
