Best cell phone provider for Cuenca

Hi,

I have an unlocked iPhone 6 so can insert a sim card from any mobile provider. I know that the 2 main companies in Ecuador are Clare and Movistar.

I have 2 questions:

(1) Is one company better than the other for use in Cuenca?
(2) Is it fairly easy to purchase a sim card and a “pay as you go” plan at the Quito airport when I arrive?

Hey, Steve. Good news–there’s a Claro store on the bottom floor of the Airport Center across the road from the terminal that’s open until 10 at night where you can purchase a SIM card and minutes.
