    There is a requirement that those applying for residency in Ecuador must have their birth certificates in the place those certificates were issued. Mine is from a tiny town in Germany and my wife’s is from Namibia. There is NO WAY THE NAMIBIAN Government is going come through for us and no way we are going to Namibia to get it done – and they even if they would do this it would probably take weeks if not months to do this.

    Laws and requirements change all of the time, so I suggest you go right to the source: contact the Consular services of the Ecuador Embassy, and ask them how you should proceed. I found them to be very responsive when we were gathering our paperwork. Here’s a link to their web site, there are phone numbers and email addresses at the bottom of the page:
