If I was granted residency as an Inversionista based on my purchase of real property, and had zero income coming from Costa Rica, would I be obligated to file a COSTA RICAN tax return, or would I be exempt from any filing duty due to the fact that I had no income to report??

Many thanks to anyone who knows the answer!

    Hi Garry,

If you have no income coming from Costa Rica you do not have to pay taxes to the Costa Rican government, nor do you have to file. For tax questions, I would also refer you to Nick Hodges, a tax expert who speaks at IL conferences about these issues:

Many thanks Jason. The general tax liability information is relatively easy to find, but the filing duties are not! The costs involved with filing are another type of “taxation” to be considered in the total cost of living in any particular country.
