Do I need to book places to stay along the coast in advance of my trip?

I’m renting a car and using Manta as a base (have already booked a place to stay there)
I’m looking to explore up and down the coasting over a few weeks.
Should I try to figure out a timeline/itinerary and book places to stay in advance.
I don’t speak much Spanish (although I’m trying to take a crash course now)

If you will be there the weeks immediately preceding Easter (or any other holiday in Ecuador and there are many) then yes, you will definitely need confirmed accommodation. Otherwise, probably not, although if you do book in advance this is one less thing to worry about on your trip.
