    Hey there,

What is the possibility of driving an RV to Ecuador from say, Texas? Does anyone know of anyone who has done that? Or if not an RV, what about just a car?

Will you be allowed to keep your car/RV and any possessions in it with you?

Any particularities about crossing borders in Central America or South America?

    Thanks!
    Veronica

Oh and one more question: do you need to get a visa of any kind before you go? or can you get one once you are there? Lucky for me, I am fluent in Spanish so that part, at least, won’t be an issue for me 🙂

Hi Veronica, you can’t actually drive as far as Ecuador as you can’t get through the Darien Gap from Panama to Colombia. I do know some people who have done this, though, but they have to put the vehicle on a ship in Panama and send it across the sea to a port in Colombia or Ecuador. Even if you do this and even if you have a resident visa, as a foreigner you can’t import a vehicle into Ecuador. So in my mind, that means you could only have it here as long as your tourist visa is valid.

You might want to talk to a customs specialist about this to learn more. I’d suggest you reach out to Sandra Baquero: SanestarInternational@gmail.com
