Exporting a Kayak

My wife recently attended the conference in Quito.  She said that in one of the presentations on exporting household goods to Ecuador that one of the items that were not allowed was Kayaks. Can you tell me if this is indeed true and if so what the reasoning for this. I was planning on bringing a Kayak into the country with me. It is brand new and has never been used. I thought that maybe this was because they might be worried about introducing some kind of invasive species. Any answers you could give me would be appreciated.
