Family Trip to Ecuador

Hi,

I am planning a trip to Ecuador with my family. My wife is from Ukraine. We dated in Eastern Europe and Asia before we were married. We currently live in Atlanta. Our daughter will be 3 when we travel. We fly into Quito in December, and have 28 days until our return flight. We’re planning on a few days in Quito, maybe two weeks in Cuenca, and a week on the pacific coast.

We’ve traveled enough to know, you are always lost the first time. We need to get from the airport in Quito to somewhere near a park (La Carolina?) in Quito for the first few days. We need to be near a park again in Cuenca. http://www.flipkey.com seems like a good site. And then we want to see the ocean. We would be grateful for any advice.

Parque Carolina is your best bet in Quito. In Cuenca Parque de la Madre is right across the Tomebamba River from El Centro. Hotel Victoria is super close. The closest decent beach area from Cuenca is Salinas, but much better beaches are about 30 minutes north around Punta Blanca.

Scott, you can take a taxi from the airport to your hotel or hostel. I have had good luck finding apartments on VRBO.com and AirBnB.com. I have stayed in this one and it is fairly close to Parque Carolina… maybe 4 blocks or so. It is also close to La Mariscal entertainment district: http://www.vrbo.com/310646
