We will be visiting Ecuador in late December. We start are trip fling into Quito. We are there for four days. Then we fly to Cuenca for three days then back to Quito for a connecting flight to Manta. My wifes question is shes wondering if she is going have a problem fling back to Quito with a six hour lay over with the high altitude sickness.

High altitude affects different people in different ways, Dave. Many people experience no problems at all. The most common symptoms are headache and fatigue. Tell her wife to drink plenty of water, eat more carbs, and avoid or limit alcohol consumption.

Dave, we won’t return to EC from the US until about the time you leave so getting together won’t be possible. Take the double decker bus tour from Parque Calderon that leaves every hour to get a great overview of the city. Stop by TerraDiversa tour company on Calle Larga for ideas on day trips you can take while in town. At San Sebas Cafe, Don Colon Restaurant, Fabiano’s, Sabatino’s, and Windhorse Cafe you should run into expats who will be happy to share their experiences with you.
