My wife and I will be visiting Cuenca in July and then going to San Clemente for Aug.  This is our first trip to EcuadorWe want to visit Guayaquil in between for about 3 to 5 days.  We want to visit the sites there and also visit the Mormon Temple.  We have heard some negative things about safety in Guayaquil.   So we would like to stay in a nice safe location but still near the sites.  Also, we only speak a little Spanish

I’d suggest the Oro Verde Hotel. www.oroverdeguayaquil.com/

    Susan,

Thank you for your reply and suggestion.
The Oro Verde looks nice but rents for $130 /night which is a little higher than our budget.  I saw another,  the Unipark Hotel for $74 /night which looked good but I wasn’t sure if it was in a bad neighborhood.
Please let me know if you know about this other one.

    Thank you, Jerry Nadeau

Hi Gerald, I’ve not spent much time in Guayaquil but have stayed at the Grand Hotel Guayaquil: http://www.grandhotelguayaquil.com It is not much less expensive than the Oro Verde. You might try the Murali Hostal Guayquil — I’ve heard others say good things about that one. Someone else recommended the Hotel Continental: http://www.hotelcontinental.com.ec and also the t http://www.guayaquilairporthotel.com — although this one will be near the airport and may not be too close to the sites you want to visit. I always have very good luck with TripAdvisor.com — you might want to see what they say.

We always stay at the Hotel CityPlaza:  http://www.hotelcityplaza.com.ec/eng/index.php?english. They pick you up at the airport, it’s near the Malecon, the rooms are spacious, and you should find it in your price range.
