    Hi,
I have a question about mail. What are the options for getting and receiving mail in Panama? Is the local postal service reliable?

Hi Linda! Nearly every expat in Panama opts for private mail services in Panama. The Panamanian national mail system is unreliable, whereas local couriers provide fast, reliable service, often via P.O. boxes held in Miami. Companies offering these services in Panama include Airbox Express/Aerocasillas (website: http://www.airbox.com.pa) and Mailboxes, Etc. (website: http://www.centam-mbe.com). These companies make it very easy to receive mail and shipments, so you don’t have to go through “Amazon withdrawal.”

Hope that helps, all my best

    Linda:

If you wish to avoid the costs of shipments of items altogether (e.g., items other than purchases at Amazon, etc) an alternative is a mail drop.

This one in Florida provides a variety of services: scanning the outside of your envelopes and sending you a notice you’ve received mail. You can tell them to trash it, forward it, or, open and scan the contents and send an image of the contents to you.
