    Is it safe, or advisable, to import precious metals into Ecuador.  In fact, is precious metals possession legal there?

    Yes, of course you can own precious metals here. This is a major gold-producing country. Bringing precious metals in is another matter. What you always have to understand in Ecuador is there are laws, but the person you are standing in front of gets to interpret those laws. Given that reality, bringing in anything beyond minimal amounts value-wise just isn’t worth the risk.

    Yeah, but the value of precious metals fluctuates daily. So worth $10K according to who?
