    Living 15 miles outside of a Loja or Cotacachi-sized town on 15 acres, do such things as burglar-alarms exist?  Are there security services which respond to alarms and, if so, what would general response time be?

    I can assure you there are house alarms in Ecuador because we hear them going off from our apartment. Since we live in a secured building I can’t speak to the speediness of security service responses, but I would imagine it wouldn’t be as fast as you would desire.

    I agree with Edd. If an alarm goes off, who will respond and how fast will they get there? No telling. That’s why some people who live in remote locations opt to have a caretaker (usually with a family) live on site.
