If on our next trip to Ecuador we find paintings, souveneirs etc. that are to much to carry back to the States, is it feasible to have them shipped back and if so, who would we use to do it (postal service, Fed Ex, UPS etc.). Also, I assume the merchants at the local market places would not be able to do this but would art galleries generally do so?

Yes, you can ship easily back to the States. From Latin America the preferred option is usually DHL and most vendors will be able to point you to a shipper. In Otavalo, you’ll find LOTS of options for shipping, for example. You shouldn’t have any problems in any sizeable city finding someone to help you.
