I am in the process of finding a company to ship my household goods to Ecuador .I am planning on becoming a resident first and then having a container shipped from the US while residing in Ecuador. Is there a correct way to do this to avoid problems?
Does any one have any good recommendations for a reliable shipping company and who has completed the process already?

Edd can answer about the best processes. You might contact Sandra Baquero (Sandy_Baquero@hotmail.com) for additional help. She is an Ecuador customs broker and can help you with many of the details.

You’ve got the right plan, Rupert. Duty free shipments are allowed for 6 months after you have obtained your visa. We shipped a 40′ container 3 years ago with no problem. The company we used is Relocation Services of Ecuador (http://relocationservicesofecuador.com).
