    This may have been addressed before, but what is the tap water situation?  Does it vary by where you are? In a hotel or vacation condo is it considered safe, or do you need filtration devices on the tap, or is it advised to buy bottled water like I’ve heard for decades? Do the markets have water dispensers to fill gallon containers like we do here? Interested to hear what you expats do for water….thanks.

    Cuenca is the only place where it is OK to drink the tap water.

    You can drink the tap water in Cotacachi, too. But if you are just visiting — and that’s any place in the world, I’d always drink bottled water. Why ruin a vacation? My son won’t even let me drink the tap water at his home in Phoenix.
