This is my second question. Flying from Cuenca to Quito UIO.

On this part of our journey, we need to head back by plane near the Quito airport, the day before. Where is the airport located in Cuenca? Can we buy advance tickets? Is it necessary to buy advance tickets? Or just show up?

Also, does this domestic plane fly into the UIO? Or another location? We want to fly in a day early and get a hotel nearby that will take us to UIO next day. We don’t necessarily want to stay in the center of Quito, now that its not near the airport. Any advice?

    Again, thanks in advance,
    David and Ginny Beres

Hi David! The domestic flights do fly in to UIO and I would recommend prebooking. The airport is 45 minutes to an hour and a half outside of Quito (depending on traffic), but I believe there are some hotels closer to the airport. Their are ticket offices in the major cities and I’ve heard that there are ticket machines in some malls, but never saw one. There doesn’t seem to be any on-line check in in Ecuador, so be prepared to get to the airport for your boarding passes. Hope that helps.

Nice hotels near the Quito airport:

    • Hosteria San Jose: http://www.hosteriasanjose.com.

    • Hosteria Rincon de Puembo: http://www.rincondepuembo.com. This one looks as if it may be the closest to the airport.

There is also the no-frills spartan Airport Suites. Mixed reviews: http://airporthotelquito.com/

BTW, those are near the new airport and not in Quito proper…
