Transportation to and from Cuenca

Well, we finally taking the leap, much like Agent J did in MIBIII, the first ledge! We’re heading to Ecuador for a 3 week journey to find a new home, perhaps.

We’ll be in Machachi for 5 days while my husband fulfills one of his dreams of climbing Cotopaxi. After that we want to go to Cuenca by train. It seems from the Tren Ecuador Map that it heads West at Simbabe. Is there another train we can take to continue south to Cuenca or do we need to take a bus? We see a track on the map, but the Tren Ecuador doesn’t have a scheduled train headed that way.

Either way, can you tell us where the second train station is located? In lieu of that, where is the bus station located?

This train is new and as far as I know it runs between Quito and Guayaquil but for sure doesn’t come to Cuenca. From either of those cities you can take a bus or a plane. Don’t take a bus from Quito to Cuenca–at least 9 hours vs. a 45 minute flight.
