ParticipantIt seems simpler to initially visit and explore with a 90 day visa but I’m wondering whether that would preclude then applying for the longer term visa later that same year if I decided to return for longer stays?
Secondly I appreciate the information on transportation from the new Quito airport to the old one. But where is the old one and how does one navigate from there?
Thanks!
March 19, 2013 at 9:27 pm #509444Alan, you can apply for a visa extension while you are here, if you like. Quito’s old airport is in the city itself… pretty centrally located. How to navigate from there? It depends where you are going, but if you’re going to a hotel or a bus station, etc., I ‘d opt for a taxi from there. Knowing me, I’d just take a taxi from the airport directly to my destination and cut out the shuttle ride to the old airport.

ParticipantAlan, you must apply for the 180 day 12-X extension before the 90 days on your T-3 expires. This can be done at an Immigration Office up to the 89th day.

ParticipantHola,
Are there any hotels located near the new airport? Do domestic flights to Cuenca take off from the new airport or does one have to get to the old airport for domestic flights?
KayMarch 20, 2013 at 12:31 pm #509540Yes, domestic flights leave from the same airport. I will look up the info on hotels and re-post soon.
March 20, 2013 at 3:04 pm #509543Here goes: There are a couple of options we’ve learned about for accommodation near the airport. While we wholeheartedly recommend spending time in Quito (you’ll find Quito hotel recommendations in the travel section of your Ecuador Insider website) we realize some of you may have early morning connecting flights to Cuenca, Manta, Loja, Galapagos, etc.
We are not endorsing these places as we have not stayed in any of them yet, but you can try:

We’ve also heard that a place called La Marmite may have some rooms — they have a well-known restaurant in Checa. You can email them for information at marmite@uio.satnet.net. And Airport Suites may or may not be open yet: http://airporthotelquito.com/
