ParticipantCheck out Joey’s website, which may answer your questions:
I used his advice, brought an unlocked smartphone to Panama, and visited the Digicel store in Multiplaza, where I got a SIM. Can’t do this in advance or at the airport. Digicel has worked well with Uber. It’s inexpensive to make calls to North America.
Before leaving the US on my next trip, I will buy a one-week “top-up” online (in English):

ParticipantJessica –
Luis Sanatmaria at Salud Panama suggested one of the dentists listed on saludpanama.com – Dr. Tovar. Last February, the doctor made the repair I requested, and he found some enamel damage, so I returned for a second office visit. Dr. Tovar and the other dentist in the practice speak English well, so I had “painless” visits, and can recommend them. They have a central location, just west of the Hard Rock.

ParticipantThanks, Jessica,
I am pleased to get the information about wind and solar generation, and the possibility of interconnection between national grids. Looks like Panama is forward-thinking.
When in Panama, I will put the question about stand-by generators on my “shopping list”.
