Diane, I’m interested in Puembo as a possible place to live.  How did you find the access, the walking around, the availability to arboretos and tiendas for everyday needs?  Did you take transportation anywhere, taxi? bus?  What was the temp and the weather?  Sunny?  Gracias.

Scott, most (all?) international shippers have contingents/agents in BOTH countries.  I am shipping from Mexico to Ecuador and I have a Mexican company because they are close, have a warehouse here for storage, and can smoothly get me out of Mexico with their export requirements–of which there are many!  They have an agent company in Guyaquil that they work with constantly and seamlessly.  The quote is all in one and the buck stops in one place.  I like that.  I called Sandra Baquero and she did not have a partner in Mexico; she referred me to 2 or 3 companies here that I could deal with for HALF my process.  That doesn’t work for me.  Check her out for Canada if you like, but after my own research and talking to other recently-shipped expats, I believe your best bet is to find a Canadian company with an Ecuador agent.

There was just a huge convention in Quito last month for international shippers from everywhere; over 300 attendees.  My shipper from Mexico was there and traveled to Guyaquil to see the port and Aduana operations as well as receiving the latest regulations for importing to EC.  They are many!  In your search, be sure to question when their last shipment was to Ecuador and if they have a “real” agent there, or just a service broker with a telephone.  Good luck.

I have the same question as Russell.  I understand that IL has a list readily available.  Where do we get that list, or can you post it here?

I am sorting and selling and packing and wondering specifically about plastic bins of all sizes, about sturdy folding tables to use for desks and other.  Also camping gear like Coleman stoves, warm sleeping bags and blow-up mats and tents and lanterns, all that kind of stuff.  I hear that sheets and towels and pillows are not good (terrible?) in the EC stores; and that electronics and appliances are outrageously expensive.  Can someone comment?

Thanks Edd.  I also know that you can get an extension on the Apostile for just a few dollars, if necessary.  I have documents that were completed early and now, 4 months later I’m still waiting for other documents.  My coordinator for these services (all documents) said she can easily get extensions if necessary for the older ones.

Another question about coming down to file.  Do you recommend coming down briefly to file my application and then going home and waiting the time it takes to complete the visa?  If I go there with only a Tourist visa, then file papers and wait, what if I spend more than 60 days in EC?–I understand that will affect my household goods shipment and something about not spending more than 60 days in 12 mos in EC before getting the visa…   Very confusing.  Can you shed any lite on this?  Also, so you have a list of recommended people/attys to shepherd me through the Immigration process?  I’ve already been hornswaggled by one schister.
