We met with Maribel while in Cuenca 2 weeks ago. She was fantastic. She will help with both rentals and sales. She showed us a fantastic variety. We did pay her $25 per hour (she does not insist upon that, though) for her time….since we are only looking at this point. I’m a REALTOR® in Tucson, and I know what it is like to spend lots of time with people, who never end up buying a home.

We just returned from our Ecuador visit. We flew back to Miami from Quito. They do have a Diners Club lounge in the Quito Airport (assume it is open 24 hours, but you would have to check on that). Our flight was delayed, so we paid $28 each to stay in the lounge. It also has some reclined couches in a separate room with timers on them…so you can take a nap. Otherwise, there is free beer, coffee, some food, and comfortable chairs to sit in while waiting.

Suzan…thanks for input. Good Advice. I almost never get upset when traveling anywhere because I know what the consequences can be. But I do need to get over my “need” to have everything planned to a “T”. (I just got back on the forum. I was locked out for over a week…and just had time this week to call Customer Service to figure out what happened. )

There was a great article by Pathfinder on April 6 called Boots on the Ground in Ecuador. It talks all about this golf course and the builder. I met the guy who sells the homes there at the Vegas Conference. This is an area we are very interested in…new builds, sounds like a really reliable builder.

My boyfriend and I are visiting Ecuador starting May 18 for 3 weeks. We’re checking out Salinas, Manta, Cuenca and Quito. Our plan is also to move to Ecuador if we feel comfortable there. Can you send me your notes. I’ve been studying all the information from the forum and from the conference in Vegas last Sept…but haven’t been taking notes like you have.

We are flying out of Tucson in mid-May. We will also be exploring the Pacific Coast (mostly Salinas and Manta) before heading to Cuenca and Quito. (We fly out of Quito) I found that the layovers are so many hours, that I didn’t want to get to Ecuador and be really tired. So we are flying to Miami, staying overnight. Then I got a direct flight from Miami to Guayaquil on American (in Business Class) for around $800 each (was $600 in coach). The flight is 4 hours 15 minutes. I had to get that price on Orbitz, though. It took me six hours on one day a couple of weeks ago, to get everything figured out, review at all the sites, prices, look at all the times and that is what I came up with. The flight from Tucson to Miami costs about $200 each (United or Delta). Tucson is difficult to get out of, and there are very few direct flights to anywhere from Tucson (except Vegas and LA and Seattle)

Thank you. I know that is something I have to learn more. My boyfriend is someone that flys by the seat of his pants. I’ve always been a Planner. I took Edd Stanton’s article in the March 18 Postcard to heart.

Thank you both. What I learned in Spanish so far, I know about silent “g” such as gente, and about silent “u’s” such as after “Q” and before an “i” or “e”. But hadn’t run across this yet.

We’re going to be spending 4 days on the Malacon in Salinas, so, think we will just spend just the one night in Guayaquil. (And now because of the book, I know what a malacon is. I looked it up on the internet, and nothing really spelled it out. The new book said simply (seaside road). I had asked Amy in an email, but she probably knows it so well, she didn’t even understand I was really asking because I didn’t know.

Also, I took the one recommendation by Suzan to stay at the Hostal de La Rabida in Quito. All the rooms show single or double beds on their website. So I emailed the hotel (email address on website ) to ask if they had queen or king beds. I got an email back within a couple of hours. Judy at the hotel said they do have King beds, and she realizes that the website doesn’t really reflect that. So Judy said we will be able to have a King bed when we are there June 2-4.

We’re staying at the Santa Lucia Hotel in Cuenca the week before and have the matrimonial room. But the man at the front desk (I actually called them to make sure they had King beds) said our room would have a King Bed. I sure hope that is true???
