I read your article in IL regarding Machala. I found it interesting. I was wondering if you could comment further regarding this city. How is the humidity compared to other parts of Ecuador ? Thanks, Bob

Don’t know if it’s still enforce or not but there is or was a 5% tax on money leaving Ecuador.

What’s the best way to send a check to Quito? The reason I ask is that a wire transfer costs $60 dollars.

Thanks Suzan, anytime you have to pay more for something it will always be unpopular. What the government needs is a “spin doctor” to make it sound like it’s a good thing for the public !

My experience on the bus. From Quito to Pedernales is five (5) hours. The return trip is six (6) hours. I guess going up hill takes more time and how many stops the bus makes. The ticket from Quito to Pedernales cost $7.50. From Pedernales to Quito cost $6.25, go figure. From Pedernales to Jama or the other way around costs from $1.00 to $3.00, depending whose collecting the money on the bus. As far as I know all buses from Pedernales stop in Jama. My suggestion to anybody traveling at night who is not familiar with the area your traveling to, don’t. I was trying find where I was staying coming back from Bahia in a bus after 7PM. Could not find it and ended up spending the night in the Pedernales bus station. Also right now from Bahia heading north, you take a bus from Bahia to San Vincente and then take a bus north.

Well, I answered my own question. I took the bus from the new airport ($8.00) to the old airport, about an hour. Then a cab to my destination ($6.00). Of course where your going in Quito makes a difference in the price. By the way my yellow cab had no meter that I could see.

Do you remember if they have private bathrooms ? The ad states they do but I’ve been told they don’t ?

Is it still about $25 – $30 dollars from the airport to the city in a taxi ?

If your looking for a dentist in Quito. I would recommend Dr. Leonardo Montalvo, http://www.montalvodentalcare.com. I had some work done last year and will be going back this year to finish up

I think your putting “the cart before the horse”. I get the impression that you haven’t been to Ecuador yet, I may be wrong. If you haven’t you need to “test the water”. Who knows you might get there and not like it. I doubt it but it’s possible.
