Hopefully Edd will weigh in on this and let you know if these dates/places are still valid. Or you can email him at Cuenca@internationalliving.com

Right, there is an express bus from the new to the old airport and vice versa. $8

I assume you are referring to the little beach town known as Playas? I don’t know many expats there… only one or two couples who live there part-time. One is Mike Sager. You might write to him and ask him about other expats in that particular location. His email address is redwulf3@juno.com.

By the way, you won’t find many expats in Loja. In Salinas, go to Smokin’ BBQ on the male con: Ave Malecon S/N y 24 de Mayo
Salinas, Ecuador (04) 277-2842 — say hi to former Texans Gary and Kathryn and enjoy a GREAT meal.

I’ll be in Cotacachi off and on during August and happy to meet with you if I am here while you are. Wendy has given you some good input for places to meet other expats in town — I’m sure Edd can do the same for Cuenca.

Yes, Magic Jack works great and you need to purchase it before you come. You will use it over the internet and it will plug into your router. You can do more research about how this works at http://www.magicjack.com — you can also use Skype on your computer if you like — see more about that at http://www.skype.com. We use both and both work fine.

Once you get to Cotacachi you can decide if you need a house phone or not. We have one since we got a landline as part of our internet package, but we never use the landline and, in fact, we don’t even have a phone hooked up to it. We have local cell phones but rarely use those either. We pretty much do everything by email… 🙂

Quito Airport Suites now has a second property so you might try them again. I’ve never stayed at their original place but we stayed at the new one a few days ago and it was really nice and comfortable. The other nearby option you mention is probably Posada Mirolindo: http://www.posadamirolindo.com/

I assume you are looking to purchase rather than rent?

You might reach out to Maribel Crespo at Ecuadorable Homes. I believe her email address is marble@ecuadorablehomes.com but if that doesn’t work you can reach her through her website: http://www.ecuadorablehomes.com

Bruce, are you sure the cell code is 9? Some are 8, and others could be different, depending where the user is. Mine is 5, for instance. And last year we all had to add another 9 before all numbers. so you could also try adding an additional 9 and see if that gets you there…

To find the fabric stores in Otavalo, go th the southwest corner of Poncho Plaza and walk south on the street leaving the plaza. In the first or second block ( can’t remember exactly which) are several fabric stores on both sides of the street.

Quito Airport Suites that Wendy mentions above is VERY close to the airport. Only about a 5 to 10-minute drive.
